Bipartisan?

January 13, 2021

in Law,Politics

Cry me a river. Trump has sown division for four years. The Republicans have supported, sustained, protected and enabled him all of that time. Now they say we can’t have bipartisanship until the sane, patriotic defenders of the nation, the Constitution, ignore those four years and accept sedition, armed insurrection and treason as the price their bipartisanship.

Trump has lied to us more than 30,500 times during his term, according to ABC News. That’s an average of about 21 per day. Following the election he was even busier, going at a clip of about 50 daily. And we are supposed to accept his word? We are supposed to cooperate with those who have knowingly ignored those lies for their own perceived political opportunism.

What happened on January 6, 2021 was domestic terrorism, instigated and led by Trump. On television I’m watching Democratic members of Congress relate conversations with their Republican counterparts who are expressing fear for their lives if they vote for impeachment. Apparently, there will be no Republican edition of Profiles in Courage. These cowards took the same oath as those serving in our military; the same oath I took in the 1950s. Those taking the oath to serve in uniform weren’t taking it in order to gain fame, fortune and power, as these sniveling miscreants did.

The invaders of the Congress included people hoping to hang Mike Pence and in whatever manner kill a bunch of congressmen and women. Still, after order was restored, 8 Republican senators and 139 members of the House voted with the insurrectionists and their leader to deny the acceptance of the votes of the Electoral College, affirmed by all 50 states, election officials, recounts and more than 80 federal judges, including the Supreme Court, in more than 60 lawsuits. In all of that, Trump’s “legal” team was unable to present any actual evidence of fraud.

Stephen Colbert had it right. He said that these invaders were against Black Lives Matter and in favor of Blue Lives Matter — except when those in blue got in their way. Then it’s okay to beat them up and smash a fire extinguisher into their skull.

Perhaps the 147 traitors would feel safer if they didn’t have to vote for  impeachment. The solution to that would have been for them to resign. Actually, they should not be permitted to resign. They should all be expelled, charged and convicted of sedition, along with Trump pere and Trump fils, Rudy and several others. Given that 5 people died as a result of their actions, felony murder charges would be appropriate. I was not required to make the ultimate sacrifice but many, many have. Is it fair to ask of them and those in the future to make any sacrifice for these traitors, these cowards who try to camouflage themselves with fake patriotism and fake religion?

Consider a few facts, contrasted with his lies. Trump, as mentioned above, has lied more than 20,000 times. His approval rating has wandered between the mid-thirties and mid-forties. We can also add in that he lost the popular vote in both 2016 and 2020 by millions. More people voted against him than against anyone else in our history. He lost by a larger number of votes than anyone else in our history. Okay, now for his claim: he won by millions of votes and by a “landslide.” Which sounds more plausible? How many Republican governors, Republican state legislatures, how many Republican election officials, how many Republican judges agree with him? None. Really? None.

Breaking

NBC is reporting that investigations have discovered that some members of Congress provided reconnaissance for the insurrectionists. How low can they go?

The Sergeants-at-Arms of the Congress have installed metal detectors for the members to pass through to get to the floors of the House and Senate. Some congressmen have gotten into shoving matches with the Capitol Police in trying to bring weapons to those chambers. Why impose such restrictions? Because some newly elected members have publicly threatened to use them, and they failed to except other members of Congress as potential targets. They have openly identified themselves as in sympathy with the goals and methods of the insurrectionists.

How stupid, how unamerican, how antidemocratic are the voters who elected these traitors?

To allow Trump and his sycophants to avoid responsibility for the most serious assault on our government since the Civil War would be nothing less than encouragement. The sedition is recorded. The violations are not in serious dispute. The laws are there. Employ them. else prepare for another, better planned, bigger and better executed assault in the future.

More

It appears that the First Minister has banned Trump’s trip to his golf course in Scotland the day before the Inauguration. Many corporations are halting the funding of Republican candidates, the PGA is disallowing its tournaments at Trump-owned courses, Deutsche Bank, which Trump owes more than $300 million, and Signature Bank, a small NYC bank, have cut ties with the Donald. While Scotland, major corporations, the PGA, the last two banks accepting him, and many others want to have nothing to do with this semiliterate sociopath. 147 Republican congressmen and women think he is acceptable, by their lack of standards.

I am surprised not to hear about the government cancelling the contract with Trump for the government-owned building that houses a Trump hotel. He has abused that contract, the law and the Constitution but receiving emoluments via that property. It appears to be his only financially successful hotel.

The neighbors of Mar-a-Lago want him to not stain their community any longer. In order to get the license to operate it as a club, Trump agreed that it could not be used as a residence. Trump has simply ignored the contract which allows him to operate the club. He uses this property as his voting residence.

All of this shunning could not be happening to a more deserving grifter.

If you found this educational, edifying, interesting or otherwise worth your time, this geezer would appreciate a little supplement to those Social Security checks, They forgot to factor in the cost of publishing a blog. I would like to continue being able to afford my daily cup of coffee and pound of caviar.
