Here in Tennessee we have a problem. There is a candidate that thinks the position of governor is an entry-level job. This, even though Trump has proven that president is not an entry-level job.
Although the candidate for governor has not earned four bankruptcies, Trump also has proven that being a businessman doesn’t translate into the necessary skills for managing a government.
Name some businessmen that were great at government. George W? Herbert Hoover? Anyone? If a business builds a factory or a warehouse they mark it down as an asset. If the government builds a building, constructs a highway or such, it is an expense. A businessman can make more money by refusing to provide benefits and a livable wage to those that actually do the work.
We expect our governments to treat public employees as human. My wife, as a retired teacher, will insist that, despite parents’ expectations, governments don’t always (read never) meet expectations. Much of that is because of the constant propaganda from the ignorant on the right that buy into the absurdity that government should be run as a business. If you don’t want quality service from public servants, just implement those methods of business.
Speaking of teachers, do you know which country has the top ranking for primary and secondary education? Finland. To be a teacher in Finland one must rank in the top 25% of high school graduates. Starting pay is $90,000. There are no standardized tests. Each teacher makes their own. And, all teachers are members of the union. The U.S. was near the bottom of industrialized countries. South Korea was second. You get what you pay for. That may not be the best for businesses but it works for me.
