Congress has given Trump a few billion dollars for his wall, They gave it reluctantly and not enough for an entire wall, but still, a few billion should be a start. But, does he really want to build it?

It’s time. It’s well past time for the Republicans to act responsibly. Put him out to pasture or put him out of his misery — pick the metaphor you prefer. Whether you like him or loathe him, it’s difficult to deny that Trump has neither the qualifications nor the temperament for nor any comprehension of the position of president. [click to continue…]

You likely jumped to the wrong conclusion as to the subject of this article. Given that I have a sight tendency to obsess over politics and economics, that’s quite understandable. Despite a desperate need to recall about 99 and 44 one-hundredths percent of all politicians, the subject on this occasion is somewhat more personal. [click to continue…]

The debate is lost. Is there anyone, other than Trump and his toadies, who doesn’t know to whom this refers? A gilded turd is still a turd.

In life, you know you’re not going to win every fight. Regardless, there are times when you must engage, whether you will win or lose. But,this is about those fights in which we would be better advised to avoid. These are fights that no one will win; fights that no one can win. [click to continue…]

I have been unable to trace from whence came the concept of coequal branches of government. The branches of our government are not coequal. They are not equal. The mistaken idea that they are comes from the design found in the Constitution for limiting the power of any one branch to attain sole power by checks and balances. [click to continue…]

Medicare Advantage is more than just a misnomer. It is a license to steal for the health insurance companies. As one with nearly 20 years on the Medicare rolls, I am more familiar with it than most. The insurance companies get all of a person’s premiums. Depending on the plan a person selects, they may or may not have to pay an extra premium. Then, Medicare gives the insurance companies more. That more comes from what is available for those who decide to stay with regular Medicare. Innocently, those opting for the “Advantage” plans are being subsidized by the rest of us. In 2012,that amounted to around $11 Billion. [click to continue…]

Unless your livelihood is dependent upon fossil fuels or you are a politician or your portrait looks like an ostrich with his head in the sand, you realize that we (the human race and several other species) are well on our way to the biggest problem we have ever faced. Electric cars will help mitigate the problem but not solve it. Solar power, wind power and a couple of other resources also will help. But, these are still insufficient.

Yes, Virginia, there is a solution to climate change. We will still need to drastically reduce fossil fuels, build windmills, employ solar energy and modify our lifestyles but a major new weapon is now available to help us survive. Herein is a Youtube video of a TED talk. It’s academic in presentation but in only 22 minutes it engenders a degree of hope you may have considered unreachable. If you care about your children and grandchildren, you cannot ignore this talk. [click to continue…]

The Great Recession could have been much worse. No one involved deserves any credit for it not being much worse. Simply put, the problem with recessions and depressions is not enough money flowing through the economy. During the Great Depression they instituted Social Security, unemployment insurance and other measures that put a floor under our economy that kept it from going even lower; keeping money flowing. Going just by the numbers, the Great Recession would otherwise have been worse than the Great Depression. [click to continue…]
