It’s over. Most people didn’t realize there was a war. Is it really a war when only one side fights? They won while we sat around congratulating ourselves on being a part of the “Greatest Country in the World.”
Just how is it the “Greatest?”
One of every four prisoners in the world are in our prisons. Please, temper your pride. Thirty-seventh in the world in health. Outside of the top-ten in satisfaction with ones life. Richest population? Not even close. Need I go on?
We used to be number one, What happened?
What happened?
In 1981 we were number one in exports of manufactured goods. Now we are the number one importer of manufactured goods.
In 1981 we were number one in imports of raw materials. Now we are the number one exporter of raw materials.
In 1981 we were the number one creditor nation. Now we are the number one debtor nation.
What happened? The elite were able to get a puppet clown named Ronald Reagan in the Oval Office. They dismantled the middle class, the basis of our wealth. He wasn’t really a president. He was a cheerleader. The more damage they did to this nation, the more we heard the chant that we were number one.
Our greatest economic growth came when the top marginal tax rate on the elite was 91%. Most of them now pay less than 15%, if anything.
The following video is instructive. It just provides the numbers. It doesn’t cover the economic reality that such disparity makes it impossible for a country to sustain growth. The explanation of that requires pages and pages and quite a few graphs. Pay close attention. There will be no test. We have already failed.

The graph is bad enough. It is not getting better. Some of you are aware that we went through a bit of an economic dip. Actually, that ended a couple of years ago. It’s understandable if you missed it.
Today, the Dow-Jones hit a record high. Did you celebrate? What? You couldn’t afford to celebrate, even if you had known? My condolences. I think I can explain why you failed to recognize that the economy has fully rebounded.
All of that loss you, your neighbors and former fellow employees lost has been regained. The problem is that the top 1% garnered 99% of the rebounding growth. The next 1% got several percentage points for themselves.
Hold on there. 99% plus several percent is more than 1oo%. Well, you and the rest of us continued to lose. That way the math works – whether several million Americans work or not.
What also doesn’t work are the absurd, simpleminded economic prescriptions that are the religious tenets of the self-styled “conservatives” and their slavish followers. They are not real conservatives. They are not free-marketeers, since there is no such thing as a free market. They know that there is no invisible hand.
They are pillagers. They are thieves. They co-opted the language of conservatives because it sounds a little nicer than “stick ’em up.”
Ironically, since a stable, dynamic economy leads to greater actual wealth than the plutocracy favored by the winners of the class war, they have jeopardized not just the nation but themselves.
I would suggest that, whatever your hometown, you ask the city’s leaders to form a “Sister City” relationship with a city in some ‘banana republic.’ The people of those places could help prepare us for the future.
