You may need to take off your shoes to count the brain cells represented in this diverse pack of white men and Lindsey Graham. In counting how many are familiar with such qualities as integrity, a sense of decency or a familiarity with truth, you might as well put your shoes back on and add a pair of mittens.
These gentlemen have no need to question Professor Ford. She insists on an investigation by the FBI. Kavanugh, Trump and the Republicans are resisting the accusations being resolved. That should be sufficient grounds for the denial of the nomination. All parties are aware that lying to the FBI is a serious felony. Who appears afraid of being charged?
Brett’s old drinking buddy, Mark Judge, loudly proclaimed Brett’s innocence, until he realized the FBI would be questioning him. He now flatly refuses to be queried.
Just consider Professor Ford’s accusation. She did not present it as a he said/she said matter. She even included the name of a witness, a witness that would be expected to take the side of his binge-drinking buddy.
Ms. Ford has received death threats. She had to have expected this, given the treatment Anita Hill incurred. That might explain her initial refusal to go public. The fact that she is now willing to face such abuse, but only if the FBI questions all parties, indicates she has good legal advice.
The committee chair insists on a quick hearing of just her and her attacker. More than protecting Brett from the FBI, it puts her at a distinct disadvantage. He has been in the public eye for about two decades. He also was given the advantage of several practice grillings. The committee wants to require her to go in cold. This may not be a factor, remembering how poorly he performed.
Beyond personal ambition, Kavanaugh is not that concerned about the Supreme Court. Hearing or no hearing, if this bozo is confirmed, the reputation of the Court will be damaged for at least a generation.
