Whose Fault

How would you describe Trump voters?  They can best be described as angry. Angry at what? Angry at who? The easy answer is everything and everyone. That’s niot very helpful though. We need a bit more detailed and focused perspective. That doesn’t mean it will help many of them begin to think rationally.

Most seem content to wallow in their perceived victimhood. I’m reminded of the old saw that you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. We can point out the reasons for their anger and positively identify the parties GOParty responsible for their putative plight but that doesn’t guarantee they will understand or accept the facts. That appears to be a distinguishing characteristic of Trump’s sycophants.

Of  the first 20 years of this century we have been burdened with Republican presidents for 12 of those years. Both failed to attain the office by the wishes of the majority of the people. The Supreme Court, which has no Constitutional role in presidential elections, stopped the counting in Florida, while the Democrats were ahead in the count, and selected Bush on a party-line decision . The Electoral College picked Trump. So much for democracy.

A forgotten (hidden) fact that was generally bypassed: a subsequent investigation of voting irregularities in Ohio in 2004 points out that Bush would have lost the Electoral College that year  — and, thereby the election.

As for the election of 2000, a tie or dispute in the Electoral College is supposed to go to the House, where each state gets one vote.

Well, how about those other 8 years?

The Democrats had control of the House for the first 2 years of Obama’s administration.

In the Senate, the existence of the filibuster requires a majority of 60 votes out of the 100 members. Because of the illnesses of Senators Ted Kennedy and Robert Byrd and the contested results of Al Franken’s election, the Democrats only had control of the Senate from September 2009 to January 2010 — for a total of 4 months. The Republican even refused to allow Obama to appoint more than 100 judges and, most famously a Supreme Court justice.

So, if a voter is upset with what’s happening in this society or what the government is doing, who should they blame? Who do they blame? Well, the Democrats, of course. After all, they were in charge for a whole 4 months out of that 20-year stretch. Is the anger of those Trump patsies misguided? Yes. Is their gullibility showing? Well?

Anger can effectively blind people to reality. It makes them gullible. It makes then vulnerable to grifters, charlatans, snake oil salesmen, liars and other Republicans. Were they willing and capable of clear thinking the Republican Party would have already ceased to exist. Then we could take on the relatively more manageable task of cleaning out the Democratic Party.

If you found this educational, edifying, interesting or otherwise worth your time, this geezer would appreciate a little supplement to those Social Security checks, They forgot to factor in the cost of publishing a blog.
